Getting out of Marseille on the road to Montpellier was so easy that it could be put on the easy peasy route getter out of thingy if there was such a thing. The first thing you notice as you leave the town is how green most things are and those that aren’t green is brown, after all summer is quite advanced round here. The Mediterranean rooves are spectacular and wherever you go in these regions the roofs are similar in character. So typical. Then there was the noise of the cicadas which is surprising really as they are stone deaf, which may explain why deaf people are always so loud they think the world is full of buzzing insects.
OK birds so far
Malayan Pond Heron, Little Egret, Drongo sp, Pacific Swallow all in Brunei
House Sparrow, European Starling, Wood Pigeon, Rook, Carrion Crow, Stock Dove in England
Black Kite, Feral Pigeon, Jackdaw, Black Redstart, Mallard,
Well I am sitting in the air con in the foyer of the Ibis and reading the shambles that is the cricket, the thing is it’s the Australian shambles and I so wish I could see this. Still it’s enough that I can read about it.
Well Montpellier was interesting without being spectacular the thing about French towns is that as long as you have thirty Euros you can get a beer and mung and still have change to give to the poor people. And there are a few of them about, weirdly they all seem to have incredibly well looked after dogs, mostly on the large size, but they seem to be better groomed than the people leading them about on a piece of string. They also leave a lot of pooh about and it isn’t just them the local glitterati have tiny little dogs that must crap somewhere as well as the student type with medium size dogs that also have to void the waste. It’s a minefield out there.
Still Hols talk went down a storm and so Hol went to the conference while I hovered around town taking bad photos and avoiding mines.
