Eddy reappeared on Saturday with a turfing machine or rather a deturfing machine as it was used to scrape off the weeds ready to put turf down sometime soon. The dogs and the local sparrows thought all their Christmases had come at once with all the seeds that were exposed, for the birds, and the dogs thought the dust bowl that was left was for their benefit. Still the house needed a good clean. Well it seems that grass is cheaper if you have the smoking kind as a lawn our size will cost a grand, that’s a lot of grass maaann. Nice Easter present though. it's interesting that most if not all the plants ripped up were European in origen. things like knotweed, scarlet pimpernel, hawkbit, plantains, fumitory, goosegrass and some really nasty burry thing that gets into Charlies fur. still all gone know and hopefully forever. the only Australian weeds seem to be sitting at computers all day.
This time of year is funny weather wise Hols trip was cut short because a rather vicious front came through and the last place you want to be is in a forest with a howling gale as company. A hard hat is really no protection against a gravity driven branch. And it rained rather a lot as well so it wasn’t all bad and then the weekend was amazing it was warm, sunny and absolutely glorious so autumnally glorious in fact Holly decided to lay on the concrete driveway and sun bathe. Just stunning weather and it continues hopefully over Easter. I know it’s not going to happen is it.
The film for the weekend was called pride and it was quite good for a Hol choice, just joking. It was certainly better than the epic Boyhood when nothing happened apart from a kid growing up over twenty years and three loooong hours and far better than my choice of No Surrender which I remembered as a jolly good film, but as with most things from that end of evolution, was much worse. I dread the time when I watch the Jungle Book or Dumbo again. My choice next time but I cannot pick anything to do with Hobbits or I may get killed. As for sport the highlight has to be the tonking of the mighty Lithuania but I will draw a very thick curtain over the rest. But a special mention must go to the Tractor Boyz for the fantastic victory last weekend.
Finally the bird stuff was mostly round Lake Wendouree but I did manage a quick visit to Winter Swamp and it lived up to its name it was bitterly cold and blowing a gale. Needless to say there was very little about and what there was very sensibly was keeping a low profile. So I had to rely on Australian Shelduck for my swampy bird. But I made up for it at Wendouree with a Sacred Kingfisher and at Invermay, well in the open area near the forest, was an unexpected Jacky Winter. Which I at first though was some kind of Robin, well I know it is a robin but not one with red bits. It was the way it was wagging its tail that got my notice. So I am still in the competition but I am running out of common ones especially those in the lake and botanic gardens.
Now a request. make some comments, or am I talking to myself.
