In answer to Jackie’s question there is a photo of the bride and groom as well as the blue gauzy angel perhaps they don’t travel well so forgive me if I post some again and you got them. The other question if you look closely at the one of the bridesmaids you can just make me out in all my glory of white shirt and black strides, a real fashion setter
After the excesses of the past day and night it was a sort of relief to leave Adelaide. So after a quick visit to a servo for the morning coffee fix it was hit the road and head east for the seaside. Outside of the major towns it isn’t difficult to navigate around Australia it’s just a matter of in 200 kilometres turn right etc. and you have arrived at your destination. On the way there we drove along one of the great National Parks namely the Coorong which is a virtually landlocked only open to the sea at the Murray mouth. It used to be really important for shorebirds and was a major brackish water fishery but in recent times the hyper-saline conditions that used to be confined to the extreme eastern end, has encroached further and further west killing all the life in the water. It may still be important for all the reasons but the only birds I saw were a few Silver Gull, 2 Australian Pelican and four Banded Stilt. There may be more towards the far east but we didn’t go that far.
We finally got to the real seaside at Kingston SE which is about 250 k from Adelaide which I guess is the start of the aptly named Limestone Coast. Desperate to know more about the thriving! Metropolis of Kingston well it’s named after a diamond geezer call George Strickland Kingston and was gazetted as a town in 1869. Why SE well it’s because there is another Kingston on the Murray River and you wouldn’t want to head for the wrong one now would you. I think Kinston upon Sea is nicer but not so original. And if you want to you can buy a property with a sea view for $350,000 about 180,000 pounds. The two most interesting things about this place is apparently it has the best fish and chippery in South Australia and is home to Larry the Rock Lobster who is a big lad. And so to Robe which is only 40 odd k down the road.
The cabin was ok though it probably needs a visit from Alex Polizzi aka The Hotel Inspector, or just a cleaning lady would do. The shower was innovative as it appears to be a modified laundry. Still it’s a roof and I have seen far worse. The pub meal was good but owing to the long weekend, for a horse race for Pete’s sake, we had to sit outside and it was a tad chilly. Poor old Hol had to queue for ages to order the meal. And so we disrobed in Robe and tomorrow I promise I won’t diss Robe at all. Well maybe a little bit.
