Birds, Ian and some fine photos too, that's because Hol took them. Not the Volga boatman but the Rio Grande boatman. This guy had been doing this journey for decades and he knew every riffle, rock, nipple and knock. This was the lowest he had seen the river in years but we made it through and yes it was a bit rickety and on the way down there were several wrecks. After he assured us they were from the time when the river floods and they get ripped out of their moorings. Still a bit of sticky back plastic and string and Roberts you parents brother. After all it's a developing country. The interesting thing about this cruise down the river was the number of North American migrants on the river such as Killdeer, Wilson's Plover, Spotted Sandpiper and American Redstart. Local species were Ring-tailed Pig, White-crowned Pig, Plain Pig, Rufous-throated Solitaire, Jamaican Euphonia (not a musical instrument) and as we were having a break an Orangequit bounced around.
