As people know we are on a road trip to Adelaide on Friday and it got me thinking of the essentials that you need for a road trip in Australia. It's a funny country as it is rather large with nobody living in most of it and the climate tends to be a little unforgiving even in winter in the north, it's worse in the summer. This has led to the phenomena of the grey nomad who shoot off north in the southern winter to the warm climes of the north only to have southerly drift when it warms up in the north. They are normally accompanied by the scourge of the outback commonly called the caravan. So the essentials for the road trip start with a car then there is the road and the surprising things you come across I've got stacks of photos but this will give you some idea. The outside of the pub thing typical though I'm not sure where they got the helicopter from it's best not to ask and the crosses are pets not his ex wives as he claims. Struggled with the birds over the last couple of days I had to use up my Australian Raven garden bird tick but I got Hoary-headed Grebe at the lake today. If you catch bush t!!

'Pigs' and 'pinkies'? The Oz language is perplexing. Those swimming 'pinkies' caused me a lot of trouble.

Wondered what that plate of food was all about?! Thought it might be some sort of pre-road trip sacrificial crustacean ceremony.
